Places for Truffles
“Truffle season is upon us and menus across the city are complementing their offerings with this heavenly fungus. Thank you truffle pigs!”
Forget Bonfire Night, Christmas, Parties and the like, the season to be most excited about is Truffle Season.
My pick of the restaurants that are incorporating truffles into their dishes until the end of the season (roughly mid-December) - though not offering specific menus - are Babbo (where there are a few special options that the chef does every day, and also the opportunity to add truffles to any dish), Cecconi's (where they are offering a daily special dish), Il Convivio (where there are 3 different dishes on offer or - for £14 per gram - truffles can be added on any dish), and Ristorante Semplice and Zafferano - both of which are offering special dishes such as carpaccio, scrambled eggs, risotto and pasta with the option of adding truffles.
Until the end of the season, Alba will be doing a 6 course, White Truffle menu for £75 per head (or adding truffles to pasta, eggs, risotto and carpaccio for around £40). Bocca di Lupo is offering a special truffle menu in their PDR for private events (and they will add truffles on request to the main menu in the restaurant). L'Anima is running a white truffle menu (for lunch and dinner) and Locanda Locatelli has also created a special menu comprising of 7 dishes: 3 starters, 3 mains and even a dessert. Refettorio at the Crowne Plaza Hotel will be running a truffle menu from 25th November onwards.
For specific Truffle events, on 9th November, Polpo is hosting a one-off truffle evening with wine experts (Piemonte wines) for £85 per person. Please call 07521176287 for details, quoting Lady Blonde. And Negozio Classica is creating a special 4 course menu for £150 per person including wine (plus 10% service charge) which will run from 23rd to 27th November (if you are after a reservation for more than 2 people only Saturday 27th November is still available).
